Travel Guide for HILLMAN STATE PARK - Pittsburgh Purple Travel Guide

We tell you why you should visit HILLMAN STATE PARK in the Pittsburgh area and what you need to know.

This largely undeveloped 3,600 acre (1,457 ha) Pennsylvania State Park never seems to get real busy. Fishing and horse-back riding are popular activities here and. once in a while, you will see the occasional hiker.

We have only hiked here once and, since we like lakes, we chose the Wetland Trail. This trial is an easy 2 mile walk in the grasslands and not the forest. The trail is very wide and well maintained. There are some red markers, but they are rarely necessary as it will be difficult to lose the trail

The trail itself is quite beautiful - we were here in late July and we saw many wild flowers. It brings you to 3 small but real beautiful lakes and near the end to probably 400ft of blackberry bushes to your left. The blackberries were still fairly small in late July, but yummy. I think we ate quite a few of them.
