Who is Rudy from backpack and snorkel Travel Guides?

Wonderful, you found my website!  I am Rudy and I hope to inspire you to experience our beautiful world and the beautiful people that inhabit our planet.  My travel blog is for everyone who wants to experience new places but only has only a few weeks vacation to do so.  My wife and I travel because we love to experience new places, people and cultures and we love Making Memorable Moments.  I hope this blog can help you do that, too.

Regardless if you travel in your own country or abroad in countries where people speak or don't speak your language, adventure and new experiences await the open minded traveler.

For years, I have provided our itineraries to our friends, family and colleagues and now we have decided to put them on the internet.

Take the stress out of planning your vacation with my blog and pack your Backpack & Snorkel and start Making Memorable Moments.

I was born in Germany and started travelling parts of Europe in my teenage years by myself and on guided bus tours.  In 1995 I came to the US for the first time and instantly fell in love with the country, the people and the environment.  After I found a job at a multinational company in Germany, I spent all of my 36(!) vacation days traveling the US.  After six years, my dream finally came true and I was transferred to Pittsburgh, PA and eventually became a US citizen.

My wife and I are a truly multinational couple: I, with my German background, and she with her Chinese heritage.  Both of us live in the USA.

Sadly, working in the US means we have much fewer vacation days and thus cannot travel as frequently.  Through a lot of trial and error, we have found our ideal travel and vacation style.  That is to focus on important destinations, to plan time for meeting the locals and, of course, for relaxation.

You may take 10,000 photos during your vacation, rush from one attraction to the next, but what your will remember in your heart are the Memorable Moments

For me, that was e.g. Spider Rock in Canyon de Chelly (ever heard of this US National Park?).  When I first saw it, I was blown away by this majestic natural obelisk and the beautiful canyon that it sits in.  I have been there two more times and still feel the same.

Or think of Isla Mujeres, a small island outside Cancun, Mexico.  On the surface, Playa Norte is supposedly Mexico's most beautiful beach and it is always crowded and the boats that anchor there play loud music.  Below the surface, Isla Mujeres is very relaxed, quite walkable and it has friendly locals, good authentic Mexican food and good international food and is often very affordable.  Isla Mujeres is our personal paradise!

Our travel style has evolved over the years and I like to get your feedback and learn from your experience to Make Even More Memorable Moments.

We are packing light these days when we travel and typically only need a small backpack - see my Traveling Light Guide. and we love snorkeling.

All opinions are my own.  I don't take money from anyone to recommend anything but you will find some affiliate marketing links on my site.  My goal is to provide value to you and help you plan your own relaxing vacations.

Are you a fellow blogger and want to collaborate?  Wonderful - I like to work with you.

Please let me hear from you.  I will do my best to respond quickly.

I have just started my blog, so please keep checking back to see my blog posts grow.  If you like what you see, please join my mailing list so that I can inform you when I add new destinations.  I promise I will not spam you with mails and you can always get off my mailing list.
