Today, we fly from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Nang in Central Vietnam. From there we take a Grab to our hotel in Hoi An, and spend the afternoon and evening exploring the Ancient Town.
This will be especially magical if you visit during the Lantern Festival. You can find dates for the Lantern Festival here.
Hoi An does not have an airport, but its neighbor Da Nang does.
Da Nang is a worthwhile destination on its own, but since we have limited time, we are skipping it to spend more time in Hoi An, which will be one of the major highlights of this trip, especially during the Lantern Festival.
Once you arrive at Da Nang airport, collect your bags, and exit the airport.
If you fly during lunch time, do not worry, the Da Nang airport has a Highlands Coffee where you can get a quick coffee and cake fix, and some restaurants.
Once you are ready to go to Hoi An, you have three options:
Take a taxi: exit the airport and take one of the many taxis waiting, but make sure that you have enough cash with you
Take the pre-arranged transfer to your hotel that you have book in advance
Here you can find hotel options in Hoi An.
Here you can book a pre-arranged transfer to your hotel.
Walk to the Grab pickup location (directions from Domestic Arrivals can be found here), and call a Grab.
Generally, the directions are straightforward:
From the domestic arrival terminal (A4), turn right and head towards the ‘Food & Drinks’ shop.
From the ‘Food & Drinks’ shop, head towards the guide board at the police station.
From the guide board, turn left and head towards pillar 2-3.
Cross the pedestrian lane and turn right towards the bus station.
From the bus station, head towards the designated pickup location.
It is a bit of a walk, but since this is a very busy Grab location, it makes sense to give it enough space and, in this case, a pickup station with multiple car lanes. Unfortunately, Grab taxis do not always come to the exact location that they are supposed to go, as navigating this maze is a bit complicated for them. So, if the Grab app says that your driver has arrived and you don’t see him, just walk around and look for the license plate.
