The HSBC Light & Sound Show is a free nightly spectacle performed directly on the Rain Vortex, the world’s tallest indoor waterfall, within Jewel Changi Airport. This five-minute choreographed performance uses a sophisticated array of projectors and surround-sound audio to turn the cascading water into a dazzling, three-dimensional screen of color and movement. It is widely considered one of the most technologically advanced light shows in an airport setting globally.

Why You Should Visit

It is a magnificent and unexpected experience that is easily accessible without a ticket, making it a spectacular way to start or finish your journey in Singapore. The combination of the colossal 131-foot (40-meter) waterfall and the intense light projection creates a cinematic atmosphere that feels both futuristic and organic. Because the show changes seasonally—featuring special themes for events like National Day or the year-end holidays—it offers a fresh discovery for every visit.

What is Special About It?

  • Projected ‘Water Screen’: The show utilizes high-definition projectors located at multiple points around the forest valley. These projectors use the falling ‘curtain’ of water as a translucent screen, making the animations appear as if they are floating in mid-air within the mist.
  • Synchronized Audio: The music is played through a high-fidelity spatial audio system that ensures the sound is perfectly balanced whether you are standing on the forest floor or watching from the high-altitude viewing decks.
  • Interactive Lighting: In addition to the projections on the water, the surrounding trees of the Shiseido Forest Valley are often synchronized with the show, pulsing with light to extend the performance into the entire 360-degree space.

Facts and Engineering

  • Short and Sharp: The show is approximately 5 minutes long, which is intentionally designed to fit into the tight schedules of transit passengers moving between terminals.
  • Designers: The show was choreographed by WET Design, the same California-based firm responsible for the world-famous Fountains of Bellagio in Las Vegas and the Dubai Fountain.
  • The ‘Home’ Theme: In 2025, special editions of the show have featured the classic Singaporean song ‘Home’, using a palette of red and white to celebrate the national spirit.

Best Viewing Point

For the best ‘front-on’ perspective of the projections, you should stand on the Level 2 Viewing Deck (North side). For a less crowded experience, the Canopy Park on Level 5 offers a unique top-down view.

Getting There

Jewel is located outside of the transit area. If you are a transit passenger, you must clear immigration to visit the Rain Vortex. Alternatively, take the Skytrain between Terminals 2 and 3 for a brief view during the show.

Traveler Tip

You should arrive at your chosen viewing spot at least 15 minutes before the show begins, as the railings on the lower levels can become crowded very quickly. If you want to capture a stable video, you should find a spot on the Level 1 Forest Valley floor near the benches, where you can look straight up at the full height of the cascade. Please note that the waterfall flow is sometimes adjusted shortly before the show starts to create the ideal ‘bead curtain’ for the projections.
