Origin of the Name Tundikhel

The word ‘Tundikhel’ comes from a combination of Nepali and Sanskrit:

• 'Tundi' refers to a flat or open field

• 'Khel' means playground or space for gathering

Historically, tundikhels were common features in towns and cities across Nepal and they were used for military drills, public meetings, festivals, and even grazing cattle. Bandipur’s Tundikhel follows this tradition, but its stunning elevation and uninterrupted mountain views make it especially unique.

A Viewpoint Like No Other

Bandipur’s Tundikhel offers breathtaking 180-degree views of the Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, and Langtang ranges. There is a vista point at the far end of the park. On a clear day, the snow-capped peaks glow brilliantly at sunrise and sunset, making this spot a favorite for photographers and nature lovers.
The open space is also a popular picnic and recreation area, where you will see children play, locals gather for festivals or just picnic, and travelers pause to soak in the scenery. Benches and walking paths make it an ideal spot for a leisurely stroll or quiet reflection.

Throughout the year, Tundikhel is used for community events, religious celebrations, and social gatherings. During the Dashain festival, it becomes a vibrant scene of kite flying, traditional games, and outdoor feasts. It’s also a prime spot for locals to practice yoga, play soccer, or simply relax.
