Backpack and Snorkel Purple Travel GuideThe Kuala Lumpur City Gallery, housed in a beautifully restored colonial building, serves as a dynamic introduction to the history, architecture, and urban development of the capital. Managed by ARCH, a local organization specializing in heritage preservation and miniature modeling, it provides visitors with essential context before they explore the streets. It is more than a museum; it is a storytelling hub that tracks the transformation of the city from a muddy tin-mining outpost to a global metropolis.
Here at Backpack and Snorkel Travel Guides, we promote self-guided walking tours.
But we realize that not everybody likes to walk by themselves in a foreign city. So, just in case that you rather go with ab guide: NO PROBLEM! Please see the GuruWalk and Viator tours below.

The gallery gives visitors the ‘big picture’ of the city through its world-class exhibits and massive scale models. Because it is located right in the heart of the historic district at Merdeka Square, it integrates perfectly with visits to the Sultan Abdul Samad Building and the River of Life. It allows you to visualize the city layout in minutes, making your subsequent walks through the capital much more meaningful.

This will also give you the best opportunity to photograph the ‘I ❤️ KL’ statue without having to wait in a long line.
