KLCC Park is a stunning 50-acre (20-hectare) tropical urban sanctuary located directly at the base of the Petronas Twin Towers. Designed as an ‘urban oasis’, this beautiful green space serves as a vital recreational and ecological escape from the surrounding concrete and steel. Opened in 1998, it was envisioned to provide a lush, verdant counterbalance to the massive scale of the skyscrapers in the city center.

Here at Backpack and Snorkel Travel Guides, we promote self-guided walking tours.
But we realize that not everybody likes to walk by themselves in a foreign city. So, just in case that you rather go with ab guide: NO PROBLEM! Please see the GuruWalk and Viator tours below.

Why You Should Visit

It is the perfect spot for relaxing, jogging, and—critically—capturing the most iconic ground-level photos of the Petronas Twin Towers. For families, the massive free playground and public wading pool offer a refreshing and budget-friendly break. Whether you are looking for a peaceful place to read or a high-energy workout on the rubberized tracks, the park provides a rare sense of openness in the heart of the capital.

What is Special About It?

  • A Master’s Final Work: The park was designed by the late Brazilian master landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx. It is said to be his final major work. He aimed to ‘leave the world a little more sensitive to the importance of nature’ by creating a man-made tropical rainforest.
  • Lake Symphony: This 107,639-square-foot (10,000-square-meter) man-made lake features two musical fountains. These fountains can shoot water up to 138 feet (42 meters) high and perform a light and sound show every evening.
  • The Children's Wading Pool: This large, shallow pool features a cascading waterfall and is entirely free for children to use. It is a favorite spot for locals and tourists alike to cool down during the humid afternoon.
  • Indigenous Biodiversity: Burle Marx selected over 1,900 indigenous trees and 66 species of palms to attract both local and migratory birds. Many of these specimens were transplanted from the old Selangor Turf Club that previously occupied the site.
  • The Jogging Track: A 0.8-mile (1.3-kilometer) track made of EPDM (a specialized soft rubberized material) circles the lake, providing a safe and comfortable surface for runners.

Architecture and Facts

  • The ‘Green Lung’ Philosophy: The park was designed with undulating topography and curved pathways to create an illusion of greater space, making the 50 acres feel far more expansive than they appear on a map.
  • Preservation of Heritage: During construction, 23 mature trees from the original site were carefully preserved and integrated into the new landscape to ensure environmental continuity.
  • As-Syakirin Mosque: Located on the northern edge of the park, this elegant mosque (known as the ‘Jewel in the Park’) can accommodate 12,000 worshippers. Its design features intricate stone carvings and Uzbekistani-inspired architecture that blends beautifully with the greenery.

Traveler Tip

The most popular photo spot is the arched bridge that spans the lake. If you stand in the center of the bridge, you can perfectly frame both towers behind you. However, for a more unique and less crowded shot, you should walk to the southern end of the lake near the whale sculptures; the water creates a natural mirror that reflects the towers in their entirety. If you have children, you should bring a change of clothes and a towel, as they will almost certainly want to jump into the wading pool once they see the waterfall.
