The KLCC - Bukit Bintang Pedestrian Walkway is a 0.73-mile (1.173-kilometer) long, elevated, and air-conditioned bridge connecting the KLCC area (Petronas Twin Towers) with the Bukit Bintang shopping and entertainment district. Opened in 2012, this architectural link allows thousands of pedestrians daily to move between the two most important commercial hubs of the city without ever stepping onto the congested streets below.

Why You Should Visit

This walkway is a fundamental tool for any self-guided traveler in Kuala Lumpur. It provides a safe, comfortable, and efficient means of travel, allowing you to bypass heavy traffic, intense humidity, and sudden tropical downpours. For those who prefer to explore on foot, it transforms a potentially exhausting trek into a pleasant stroll. It is also an excellent vantage point for urban photography, offering elevated views of the busy intersections of Jalan Raja Chulan and Jalan Pinang.

What is Special About It?

  • Climate-Controlled Comfort: The walkway is fully enclosed and air-conditioned for the majority of its length. The interior is kept at a refreshing temperature, making it a ‘lifesaver’ during the peak heat of the afternoon.
  • Seamless Connectivity: The bridge is approximately 16.4 feet (5 meters) wide, providing ample space for two-way pedestrian traffic. It features clearly marked exits to major landmarks including the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Aquaria KLCC, and the Impiana KLCC Hotel.
  • The ‘Connection’ Link: At the Bukit Bintang end, the walkway deposits travelers directly into the ‘Connection’ precinct of Pavilion Mall on Level 3, which is lined with some of the best al-fresco dining and cafes in the city.
  • Architecture and Design: The structure is made of glass and steel, featuring a sleek, modern design that follows the winding path of the streets below. The transparent walls provide a continuous panoramic view of the skyline of the Golden Triangle.

Facts

  • Strategic Integration: The walkway is a key component of the urban mobility plan of the city. It allows pedestrians to walk from the KLCC LRT Station to the Raja Chulan Monorail Station entirely under cover.
  • Safety and Security: The bridge is patrolled by dedicated security personnel and is monitored by a comprehensive CCTV system. This makes it one of the safest ways to navigate the city center, especially for solo travelers at night.
  • Corporate Contribution: The project cost approximately RM 100 million (US$23 million) and was funded by Petronas as part of its social contribution program to improve the livability and walkability of the capital.
