Backpack and Snorkel Travel Guide for Miquelon - St. Pierre and Miquelon Purple Travel Guide
Today will be our last day in Miquelon. We will take a tour of Miquelon and Langlade and then take a ferry ride to St. Pierre.. We provide detailed information and a self-guided tour with the best things to see and we show lots of photos so you know what you can expect.
The island tour starts at the Auberge de l’Île. Patricia, the owner of the Auberge, leads tours in French and an employee of hers gives tours in English. Included in our tour was lunch at the Auberge. The first stop was the Belvédère du Cap de Miquelon and the next stop was a bit north of the lighthouse. The tour then goes to the north eastern side of Grand Miquelon near Le Chapeau (map) for great views of Étang de Mirande. The tour then continues along the western side of Grand Miquelon with several stops for great views of Grand Barachois and other beautiful sights. Afterwards, the tour crosses the isthmus to Langlade. In Langlade, multiple stops are made for great views of the best beach on the island and at the end of the road near Gare Maritime de Langlade SPM where there are restrooms. If you ask, the tour guide will allow you 5 min on the beach.
Food truck
After the tour you can check out of the hotel and walk towards the harbor from where the ferry to St. Pierre will leave. While you are waiting, you could stop at the food truck for some crepes and a beer.
Since this ferry ride does not cross an international border, you can walk directly up to the ferry to board and there is no passport control. This time, there is no gate-check for your carry-on luggage and the free wifi worked flawlessly on the 90 min ride.
Accommodation in St. Pierre
Unlike in Miquelon, several hotels in St. Pierre are on 3rd party booking sites, but you will still need to contact some of the hotels directly to find out if they have any vacancies and what their nightly rates are. Expect many hotels to be fully booked in July and August, so book early. Some of the hotels, pensions, Bed & Breakfasts and Airbnbs are only open seasonally.
The St. Pierre and Miquelon visitor center (phone: (+508) 41 02 00, email: saint-pierre@spm-tourisme.fr) was super helpful finding available accommodation for us. Do not hesitate to contact them and they will find something for you, possibly even on short notice.
These are the hotels in St. Pierre that we are aware of:
Auberge Quatre Temps phone: (+508) 41 43 01; email: contact@quatretemps.com
At the time of writing, there are 3 Airbnbs (full apartments or houses) on St. Pierre.
Hotel Robert
The location of Hotel Robert can’t be beat. It is close to all attractions in the city and the receptionists spoke excellent English. The hotel style is more like a motel in the US with doors leading to a courtyard, but the room was spacious and clean.
Breakfast was not included in the room rate, but the hotel serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Feu de braise restaurant
Unlike Miquelon, St. Pierre has more restaurants, and it is necessary to make a reservation in many restaurants. See more information about the restaurants here.
The Feu de braise restaurant it is probably the best restaurant in St. Pierre. As such, you must make a reservation, otherwise you will need to wait and hope that a table becomes available. The restaurant serves French food and opens at 7pm for dinner.
This concludes your tour for today.
